Autumnal Wedding Cakes

Autumn is my favourite season. Each year as it comes round - I fall in love with it even more. I love the light, the russet-coloured leaves, the smoky scent that is carried on the air... The amazing produce available at this time of year makes it my favourite season for baking too. I especially love butter-rich and soft-crumbed cakes to have a slice of. Heaven on a plate! 

It won't surprise you then that I had my wedding in October - many years ago now but it still is one of the most special days of my life. It was amazingly warm and sunny yet still very much felt like autumn. The colours and the light in the photographs that we have from that day are just so beautiful.

So with all of this autumn gorgeousness in mind, I wanted to share with you some photos from a recent shoot capturing the rich hues, the earthiness and the provenance of the season. 

This tall layer cake is made up of a lightly spiced vanilla sponge and is filled with blackberry jam and indulgent vanilla buttercream, laced with plum liqueur. The cake is finished with a drizzle of salted caramel and topped with plump blackberries, luscious figs and crisp segments of pear. There is a bohemian touch to this cake with the delicate feathers. The table was overflowing with gourds, plums, apples, pears and berries. The stars of the show are the beautiful dahlias from Pigpen Flowers including the stunning Labyrinth with its pink and peach frills.  

Here you'll find the Chat Noir dahlia, in its deep burgundy hue, along with chocolate cosmos, purple and pink cornflowers and distinctive scabious with it pin-cushion like flower head. This bridal bouquet captures all the autumnal colours with its richly-coloured blooms.
