Romantic Spring Wedding Inspiration at the Beautiful Heritage Venue Somerley House

When Amy, The Timeless Stylist, approached me to work with her – I was delighted. Amy tells captivating stories through beautiful details that are elegant and timeless. She takes great care to bring together talented wedding suppliers who will help bring her stories to life. When Amy shared the moodboard and the words behind A Forgotten Love Story, I got taken away to a time of sincerity and romance, to a tale of wanting in an age long gone by.

This was the story she shared with us to inspire:

“A woman was clearing the belongings of her much loved grandmother, who had passed away recently at the grand age of ninety-seven. The woman had loved listening to her grandmother’s tales of her life and how she had met her grandfather at sixteen and fell instantly in love. She knew that they had two glorious years together in love before her great-grandfather was called to duty for WW2. During those years they had lived in a little village called Ellingham, where they spent as much time as they could outside exploring, walking around beautiful Somerley Estate and going on bicycle rides to the beach for picnics and ice cream. When the Grandfather knew the war was inevitable, he proposed to his beloved and they had the most beautiful and happy day with their loved ones. Sadly, the grandfather died fighting in the war in 1943, however not before celebrating the birth of their beautiful daughter. The Grandmother would get so sad talking about these times, that the Granddaughter would often change the subject. Whilst searching through belongings in her Grandmother’s dusty loft, she was so ecstatic to stumble upon a pile of love letters from her Grandfather to her Grandmother during their few but very special years together, along with special memorabilia from the time. Today we are depicting our version of the love story in beautiful Somerley House, and how we envision it would look today.”

Camilla Arnhold captured all the details of this story with her light-filled fine art photography. There were so many incredible suppliers on the team. Louise from Fine Art Calligraphy created a breathtaking wedding stationery suite. She also illustrated Somerley House on hand-made paper that added the extra, exquisite touch!

I adored the flowers that Liz from Blue Sky Flowers created including the dreamy bridal bouquet as well as the striking floral installations that were perfect for that early Spring feel. And peeping out between some of those gorgeous roses were tiny pops of blue from sweet little forget-me-nots, which are still one of my favourite flowers from when I was a little girl.

For the cake itself, I wanted to create something a little different to anything I’d made before. I wanted to conjure up a texture that would complement the heirloom feel to the shoot so I included piped petals and tiny pearl details that cascaded down the cake in a natural and organic way. And completed the cake with brushstrokes in a chalky-white to create a timeless finish.

I just love this Anna Kara bridal gown with its feminine, sensual and graceful style which is perfect for a bride seeking an elegant and romantic dress.

Somerley House was such a wonderful venue for this shoot too with its quintessential English heritage aesthetic and breathtaking views. A building with grace and character that formed the perfect backdrop for the romantic photos.
